M 4.7 Denali fault earthquake of July 5, 2002

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center located a light earthquake that occurred on Friday, July 5th at 8:41 AM AKDT in the central region of Alaska. This earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 and was located at a depth of about 3 miles (5 km). The magnitude and location may change slightly as additional data are received and processed.

This event was felt at Denali Park, Cantwell, Delta Junction, Fairbanks, and North Pole.

Time: 07/05/2002 16:41:39 Latitude: 63N30 Longitude: 147W29 Depth: 5 km

The automatic system detected and located 3 aftershocks with magnitudes between 2.2 and 2.7.

First motions focal mechanism parameters:

Paz=150; Ppl=0; Taz=59; Tpl=70

strike1=221; dip1=48; rake1=63; strike2=78; dip2=49; rake2=117
