Launching sonobuoys: My friend Christian Berndt took this photo of me as I was operating the sonobuoy launching gun on the R/V Maurice Ewing. After charging the gun with something like 2000 psi air pressure, the valve is released and the buoy flies a couple of hundred meters from the ship. Truly a good time. |
